Biogas
Biogas power is another eco-friendly project embarked by us to tap sustainable energy from wastewater generated from palm oil milling process or more commonly known as palm oil mill effluent (POME). Aerobic activated sludge process involved during this harvesting of energy from POME not only results in regulatory compliance but also more environmentally friendly POME discharge.
In general, anaerobic digestion of POME emits methane gas, a greenhouse gas which is 21 times more harmful to the environment relative to carbon dioxide. Greenhouse gas is known to be primary cause of global warming and environmental damages. Nonetheless, through proper treatment methane gas can be harvested to generate industrial steam and eventually electricity.
This biogas power also qualifies as a Clean Development Mechanism
(CDM) project which entitles it to earn Certificates of Emission
Reduction (CER). It is expected to be completed by early 2008 with an output capacity of 2.5MW of green electricity from its industrial steam. |
