The Wakuba ramet is the result of 10 years of extensive research and development (R&D), with our laboratory set to produce 500,000 WAKUBA ramets in 2010 and 1.5 million ramets by 2015. This will allow superior oil palm materials to be available, especially to smallholders and plantations in Sabah.Datuk (Dr.) Kelvin Tan Aik Pen

TSH Biotech Sdn Bhd (Company No. 631048-V) (TSH Biotech) was established in 2005 with the objective of producing high quality oil palm ramets with high fresh fruit bunches (FFB) yield and oil extraction rate (OER) for the palm oil industry.
With over RM40 million invested, the 70,000 sq. ft. Wakuba tissue culture laboratory is now on track to produce 500,000 ramets this year, gradually increasing to 1.5 million ramets by the year 2015. The Wakuba ramet is the result of 10 years of extensive research and development (R&D), with researchers collecting data as early as 2001 when TSH Resources first set up its small laboratory.
The oil palm ortets for tissue culturing are sourced from elite palms from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB). The ortets selected will have undergone years of observation and evaluation, including at least five cycles of oil extraction test, in compliance with the standard set by the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM).
Staffed by a team of experienced tissue culturists, the Wakuba TSH Biotech laboratory is led by Dr. Jinil Malaji, Head of Biotechnology and is assisted by Wakuba manager, Ms Laura Simon. This expertise, combined with a well-equipped laboratory infrastructure, ensures TSH Biotech’s WAKUBA ramets production is based on well-established and proven processes and protocols.
