Out of the 123,385 ha of FMU, 24% of the forest land has been designated for environmental conservation which includes the “Meliau Range”. Some 172 species of wild birds call this unique sanctuary their homes. Recognising its unique biodiversity and unparallel topography, we worked with various conservation funds, Sabah Forestry Department, and international NGO to conduct ecological and biodiversity study on the “Meliau Range”.
Natural Forest Management
TSH conducts enrichment planting and “silviculture” on severely logged over and degraded forests under FMU 4 as part of its forest rehabilitation efforts. To-date about 12,000 ha of forest logged prior to us taking over the areas have been rehabilitated through enrichment planting and silviculture. As part of our corporate social responsibilities, it is our priority to employ natives mainly from “Ansuan” and “Pinangah” tribes working closely with us on our Natural Forest Management program.
